Latin Dance Australia LDA Team

JAMMY THRAHANAS
_____________________________________________________

Jammy (Jamie) Trahanas, an avid mambo dancer for the past 6 years, is a very familiar face in
salsa scene often seen dancing the night away. The Australian born Greek, with a Latino spirit and passion, was asked to join LDA as a member of their International salsa team to perform at the 2005 Los Angeles salsa congress.

Known for her following ability, technique and the
“sabor” in her own dance style, this expressive dancer also loves to help and watch people develop their own musical interpretation and unique expression.

Jammy adores the
freedom of expression provided by all forms of dance and this coupled with her great ability to assimilate and break down the technical elements of dance has seen her excel in performing and teaching many styles of dance.

Jammy attributes many of her skills and love of dance to her
sister who for many years trained and performed as an acrobat and dancer with an internationally renowned studio... it seems that she eventually caught the dancing bug too.

With a strong creative drive and a great ear for music, not to mention an inability to stand still around music, Jammy has
choreographed many routines including mambo, shines, samba and rueda. Some of these have been showcased at events such as the 2005/6 Sydney Salsa Congresses with the assistance of some fantastic dancers in the salsa scene.

Aside from performing at the 2005/6 Sydney salsa congresses, she has also performed at events such as the
Los Angeles World Salsa Congress, on television, event openings, and in numerous festivals such as the Sydney Bacardi Festival and Brazilian Festival.

She has learnt from many of the most highly regarded international mambo instructors and has also spent time developing her lambada, cha cha, axe and hip hop styles.

Jammy has won and placed in dance competitions, including 2nd place in the Sydney salsa competition 2003, however this is one sport in which she prefers to not compete with others. Her undoubted preference is to
spend all night dancing, non stop, feeling and expressing every nuance in the music and enjoying the interaction with her partner, until the sun comes up or she collapses in exhaustion! This passion for social dancing saw her dance night after night with many of the best dancers from all over the world at the LA Congress, Paris Congress and in England.

Being a huge fan of
Latin music her latest project has been to learn how to play salsa - watch out for her behind those drums sticks or bass!
