A phenomenon in his own right, Jaime
has been plucked from Latin obscurity, and has transformed
himself into one of Sydney's most respected dancer,
choreographer and instructor within Australia.
Born in Uruguay, of Brazilian and Uruguayan descent,
Jaime moved to Australia when he was 5 years old.
Constantly surrounded by South American people and
influences, Jaime remained in close contact with his
Latin roots.
Born with flavour in his hips and fire in his feet,
Jaime showed amazing talent in his favourite sport,
soccer. At 18yrs old, a young and hopeful Jaime was
contracted to play soccer in Uruguay. Making one of
the biggest decisions in his life, he returned to
his native country to pursue his dream.
It was in Uruguay that Jaime's passion for Salsa really
ignited. Despite daily intensive training, he found
time to indulge in his newly found pastime - Jaime
took to salsa like a fish to water.
Jaime's natural timing and awareness of Salsa and
Rueda led to his rapid improvement and he began teaching
for LDA in April 2001.
In June 2001, after only 5 months of training with
LDA, Jaime came 1st in NSW at Marconi Club Salsa Competition.
Also in 2001, Jaime was a finalist in the “Australian
Selections”, competing against Australia's best.
In September 2001 at the LDA GALA BALL, he was awarded
with the title of the Best Male Talent of the Year.
That’s why people stop to watch this Latin dynamo
as he burns the floor wherever he goes.
Today, he is the male Head Teacher, Performer, Choreographer
and Artistic Director of LDA.
In 2002 he won first place at the Fox Studio’s
Salsa competition and earned the rights to represent
Australia in the World Salsa Congress in Milan, Italy.
This award brought him to the attention of some European
Salsa experts who contacted LDA and invited him to
represent Australia in 3 more European countries such
as Italy, Germany and Norway. Jaime Jesus became Australia’s
first International Salsa Instructor in 2002 when
he was contracted to teach workshops in Munich, Germany
before heading off to perform In Milan.
In January 2003 he won first place at the Cave Nite
club Salsa Competition. During that same period of
time Jaime Jesus was invited to represent Australia
at the World Salsa Kongress in Zurich, Switzerland.
His performance earned him an invitation to perform
at the 5th Annual West Coast Salsa Congress in Los
Angeles. Upon return Jaime competed in and won the
1st Annual Brisbane Salsa Championships on the 27th
April 03. This was the 1st national Salsa Competition
which was represented by dancers coming from every
state in Australia.
In May 2003 Jaime performed at the LA Salsa Congress
amongst some of the best dancers in the world. He
has now been invited to perform all over the world
in cities such as Miami, New York, London, Marseille,
Toronto and San Juan Puerto Rico.
Jaime has earned the respect of Latin teachers and
dancers alike everywhere he has travelled. He is an
outstanding young talent and is already considered
top dancer in Australia.
